General Ledger is a core component of the RA Associates Accounting Package. It is used
for a wide variety of functions, including defining your accounts and account types, making
ledger entries, setting up cash flow codes and user defined reports, generating month-end and
year-end reports, re-opening closed months, restoring backups, and report generation.
Features of the General Ledger system include -
- Standard pre-defined account types with the ability define your own account types.
You can have multiple retained earnings accounts by simply indicating which account types
close to which retained earnings account.
- Account numbers consisting of general ledger number, sub-ledger number, and
department number. The general ledger number is used for high level grouping, ex.
income, expense, bank. The sub-ledger is used for sub-grouping under the general
ledger number, ex. if a general ledger number indicated a bank, the sub-ledger
number could indicate bank accounts. If the general ledger number indicates expenses,
the sub-ledger number could indicate vendors such as the IRS, and the department number
could indicate IRS expense types.
- In addition to the 12 standard accounting periods that can be closed, you are
allowed an unlimited number of times to do 'thirteenth' month entry and closings
before closing for the year.
- You can assign any cash flow code you wish to your accounts with account type of
Cash. You can then super-group your cash accounts for reporting purposes. You define your
own cash flow report, with an unlimited number of group headings, and sub-group
headings. You may assign an unlimited number of accounts to the sub-group. You can
display totals for the report at the sub-group level, or if you wish, the sub-ledger
or department level.
- You can set-up an unlimited number of cross-reference reports where you define which
accounts are in the x-axis and which accounts are in the y-axis.
- Reports can be run for the start of fiscal year to-date, for the start of fiscal year
through whichever month you indicate, or for a given month.
- Sub-ledger reports can be run for all accounts, or limited to 1-5. Department reports
can be run for all departments or limited to 1-5.
- The cash flow report can be run for all cash flow super-groups, or one, and for all
cash accounts or limited to 1-5, and then limited as the sub-ledger report can be to drill
down to relevant sub-groups.
